PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS LEVY
RENEWAL PLANNED - NO NEW TAXES

The Fairfield Union School
District is asking voters to renew the 3.0 mill
permanent improvements levy. Passage of this renewal
will result in no increase in taxes.
The length of the levy is
for five years, beginning in 2013 and ending in 2017.
The current levy expires at the end of 2012.
The levy was originally
passed for 3.0 mills in 1982; however, because of
property reappraisals since 1982, the actual or
effective rate was 1.1 mills last year. The effective
rate next year will be approximately 1.1 mills.
Since the existing levy is
being renewed, the language ballot will indicate that it
is a renewal of the original 3.0 mill levy. The levy,
along with interest, generates about $270,500 per year,
all of which must be used for improvements that have a
life expectancy in excess of five years. The funds will
be used for improvements to our facilities, purchase of
school buses, purchase of instructional technology
equipment or other such permanent improvements to the
district.
For a family owning a
$100,000 home, the levy is currently costing this family
about $33.68 per year. Approval of the levy would mean
this tax would continue for an additional five years.
